HostServ is used to give you a certain vhost.

Now what is a vhost here on this network and how do I get it?

Answer: A vHost is a virtual host mask. If you connect to our chat server, your IP or the associated host name will normally be set as the host mask. In addition, this IP or this host name is made unrecognizable to guarantee more security.

Now it is also possible for us to change this hostname. There is HostServ for this, where the operators in #Support can enter a virtual host name for you. You can also apply for a vHost yourself, which then only has to be activated by the operators. For this there is the command: "/msg HostServ REQUEST <vHost>". This virtual hostname will then be displayed instead of your normal IP or hostname.

    Rules for requesting a vhost:

    1. No insults in the vHost, such as Musterman@ist.doof.de
    2. It must be a valid TLD, i.e. the host name must end with .de or .com, for example
    3. The vHost can only contain the following characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, . and -
    4. No pretentious vHost (such as "Police", "FBI", etc).

Of course, HostServ has a few additional functions which I will briefly explain here.

    GROUP

With the command /hs GROUP you have the possibility to set the vhost of your current nick as the vhost for all nicks in the same group

    OFF

With the command /hs OFF you deactivate your vhost. If someone does a /whois on your nickname, they can see your hostname and IP.

    ON

With the command /hs ON you activate your vhost. If someone does a /whois on your nickname, they will see the vhost instead of the IP or hostname.

    REQUEST

With the command /hs REQUEST vhost you can request that the specified vhost be activated for your nick by the network administration. Please be patient while your request is reviewed.
